Diploma programs usually take one to two years, while bachelor’s degrees require three to four years of study. Staying in New Zealand After Graduation

The Post Study Work Visa is designed for students who have recently completed their studies in New Zealand and want to stay and work for up to three years. The duration of the visa depends on the qualification you obtained.

  • If you have completed a degree-level 7 or higher qualification, you can work for any employer in any job, as long as you studied full-time in New Zealand for at least 30 weeks.
  • If your qualification is non-degree level 7 or below, you may still be eligible for a Post Study Work Visa.
  • You can only apply for this visa once, and no later than three months after your student visa expires.
  • If you fail a course or take longer than expected to complete your studies, your visa will not be extended to cover the extra time.

A: Yes, international students may be able to work part-time or full-time if they meet specific criteria. You may be eligible to work if you are a tertiary student, a PhD or Master’s student, an English language student (in some cases), a secondary school student in Years 12 and 13 with school and parental permission, or if you are completing practical experience as part of your studies.
